Piano | RAYNE VITORINO DIAS Rayne Vitorino Dias is in his last year of his second master’s degree at the University of Iowa in music education. He did his undergraduate work at Federal University of Uberlândia (Minas Gerais, Brazil). After graduation he became a teacher at Uberlândia’s Conservatory of Music, and played and recorded with many groups in this, his hometown. In May of 2019, he earned a master’s degree in jazz studies at the University of Iowa. |
Bass | BLAKE SHAW Blake Shaw is an Iowa City resident, double and electric bassist, vocalist, composer/arranger, band leader, and teacher. After receiving both a bachelor of music in classical double bass performance (‘13) and master of arts in jazz (‘17) degrees at the University of Iowa, he continued his quest of playing any and all kinds of music. In his main group, The Blake Shaw Quintet, he not only showcases his original compositions but adds a mix of jazz influenced arrangements. |
Drums | JEROME GILLESPIE JR. Jazz’s newest enigma who goes by the moniker of Jerome Gillespie, Jr. is a multi-talented musician, drummer, composer, band leader, and teacher who is at the fulcrum of an evolving jazz scene. Taught in Houston by Craig Green, Joel Fulgham, and Sebastian Whittaker, Jerome Gillespie, Jr. is a very different and uniquely wired musician who isn’t afraid to break the rules and push the boundaries of our perception with his deeply layered and well-crafted syncopated rhythms. Born and raised in Houston, Texas, he later attended music conservatory schools The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, and later transferred and graduated from the Manhattan School of Music. |
