In a town where water is scarce thanks to a 20-year drought, the government tries to remedy the problem by charging people for the “privilege to pee”! Urinetown dares to question greedy capitalists and idealistic socialists alike by employing sharp satire and a score playing homage to, and occasionally spoofing, classic musical theater conventions.

A new full-length work directed by Professor Johanna Kasimow and devised in collaboration with an ensemble of students will close out the Mainstage season! University of Iowa Theatre Arts students will embark on a collaborative creative process to build an original production from the ground up, through experimentation, imagination, and collective discovery.
